Are you a WHO DAT? 7-0!

New Orleans SaintsWow! The rumblings of a Black and Gold Superbowl are getting louder. The New Orleans Saints are 7-0!  First, I am a proud New Orleanian and love this city’s history, culture, and food (yummm). Second, along with that comes being a Saints fan through good times and the not so good times! Right now, they are playing superior football on both sides of the ball. Head coach Sean Peyton who has embraced the city with his Play it Forward Foundation has really given this team the confidence to consider themselves a competitive football team. He’s a smart coach who has brought in exceptional talent in both coaches and players. His most notable pick was bringing on board Drew Brees (Cool Brees as my son would say) at the quarterback position. Coming off a shoulder injury Brees came to New Orleans with an uphill battle and he’s shined under pressure.

As everyone knows we had a rain storm in 2005 that did some damage. Yes, that one! Since August 2005 there are still glaring reminders of the tragedy of that day and as a city we use the Saints as a means of escape and celebration! Instead of shunning us for a more fashionable city players like Brees saw a challenge. He became extremely active in helping the city rebuild and  started The Brees Dream Foundation which participates in rebuilding local schools, parks, playgrounds and  funding cancer research. He is also on the board of trustees at the National WWII Museum in downtown New Orleans and is participating in the opening of the Solomon Victory Theatre this month. Along with Brees, Reggie Bush, the Saints number one pick running back is participating with various charities benefiting the city including the Make it Right Foundation and the rebuilding of Tad Gormley Stadium where local high schools compete in sports. This is just the work of two players among many.

Yes, I love football and love watching every exciting play while screaming like they can actually hear me through the TV, but I also enjoy knowing that they are doing more for this city than just lifting our spirits when the win. They are participating in projects that make a difference to the city and the people who love it.
