Having the opportunity to review Seventh Generation’s newly, re-launched Free & Clear Diapers could not have come at a better time. I am a mom to a 2 month old and I spend lots of time searching for the highest quality and safest products for him. Many things have changed in the eight years since my oldest son was born. Did you know that there are baby swings that can be connected to I-pods? How cool is that! But even better than updated electronics, is the fact that company’s, like Seventh Generation, are making every effort to improve the environmental footprint of disposable diapers and, in doing so, they have removed additives.
Did you know that many disposable diapers are treated with chlorine dioxide (a chlorine containing chemical) to achieve bleaching the diaper to white. When doing this, chlorinated toxins can be released into the environment. In contrast, Seventh Generation uses whitening agents such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydrosulfite. These chemicals do not contain chlorine. You can learn more about the different processes by clicking here.
My first impression when opening the package of diapers was that the color didn’t look right. They are a light tan and, unlike most brands, they lack cartoon characters. After reading about the process to turn diapers white I like the more natural tan color. Also, I like the tabs used to secure the diaper. They do not feel sticky with adhesive. It’s almost like a really fine, smooth Velcro. Neither side is scratchy and they hold very well.
The size of the plastic packaging has also been reduced. The plastic packaging can be recycled at your local supermarket where plastic bag recycle bins are located. The new diapers also have a lighter-weight core which contains wood pulp. These two features both help in reducing the overall impact on landfills.

I seldom comment, but after browsing through a few of the comments on Seventh Generation Diapers (Product Review|Coupon) – NOLA Mommy.
I do have a couple of questions for you if you don’t
mind. Could it be simply me or does it give the impression like a few of these comments come across like they are coming from brain dead individuals?
😛 And, if you are writing on additional online sites, I
